Contemporary Scarf Workshop
Join us for this contemporary scarf workshop for beginners that teaches you to set up and weave a longer project on your Oxford Frame Loom! Learn classic and contemporary weaving techniques to customise your super soft, chunky and distinctive handwoven scarf in the popular modern rustic style.
In this workshop you will learn to weave your very own soft and chunky scarf using a gorgeous combination of thick, merino wool roving and fine yarns inspired by the designs by workshop host, Cassandra Smith, from Cassandra Sabo Designs.
Working with a colour palette in mind (perhaps you are coordinating your scarf to style with your favourite winter coat or you're choosing your Mom's favourite colours), Cassandra will guide you through our vast array of weaving yarns in the studio and help you select your favourites from over from over 50+ colours.
With your yarns to hand and under Cassandra's expert guidance she will then teach you how to set up your warp on The Oxford Frame Loom so you understand how to set up and wind on a long warp. Then working with your yarn selection, she will teach you a selection of classic hand-weaving techniques and some fun, contemporary ones to personalise your own scarf design.
Throughout the workshop you will be working with your own dedicated, Medium Oxford Frame Loom and Weaving Tools (purchased as part of the workshop, bringing your own or borrowing one from the studio) that will enable you to weave a scarf in length of approx. 2m. You will begin the project with us in the studio and then complete your project at home at your own pace.
The focus in this workshop will be on learning how to set up and weave a longer project, learn a new craft skill while developing a project and have fun in a relaxed environment!
