Introduction to Weaving Workshop (Kids 6 - 11, Teens 12+): Group Workshop
Our new project-based beginner workshops for kids aged 6 - 11 and teens 12 + is now available. Students will be taught the basics of weaving and will take home their very own hand-woven textile.
Skill Level: Beginner
This workshop is designed to build a child's confidence in working with materials by understanding the basics of weaving. The workshop is open to boys and girls who enjoy working with their hands, like to explore materials and enjoy creative projects in school or at home.
Using our pre-prepared, newly designed Frame Loom and a set of our unique Weaving Tools, we will walk the children through the basic weaving techniques they will need to get weaving. With this knowledge of the warp & weft and working with their chosen materials, they will create their very own hand-woven textile.
In this workshop, the aim will be to introduce the children to textiles, weaving and exploring materials. They will learn techniques from both modern tapestry weaving such as Rya knots (fringe) as well as classic hand-weaving techniques such as plain weave (tabby) and ribs. Working on their own loom and at their own pace, our aim is for them to have fun, learn a new craft skill and build awareness of textiles..
