Private Workshop: Introduction to Handweaving
Skill Level: Beginners
Learn to weave using the equipment, tools, materials and processes necessary to create handwoven textiles in our one-to-one, Private Introduction to Handweaving workshop. These workshops offer students a rare opportunity to learn how to weave from experienced, highly-acclaimed weavers working in the field of contemporary weaving.
In this beginner handweaving workshop students will learn the fundamentals of handweaving. Depending on the student's aspirations, we will develop a session unique to them. Perhaps a student wishes to see what can be achieved on a handloom and create their own bespoke woven cloth. Or perhaps the student is more ambitious and wishes to learn how to weave independently on a handloom. In this case we will teach how to wind a warp, dress the loom, thread the heddles, reed and tie on the warp and learn to weave. To achieve both of these goals, a different solution will be needed. As such, we have created a variety of durations for students to design their experience with us.
We currently offer 4 options for this workshop, a half day (4 hours), full day (6 hours) or 2 day intensive workshops (8 or 12 hours). The 2 day workshops can be consecutive or non-consecutive days. We limit a full day to 6 hours as we find that concentration levels often do not extend beyond this point. To help you determine which session would be most beneficial to you, we encourage you to get in touch with us to discuss your specific needs. Once we have determined which session would best suit you, we will ask you to book the session online.
Please note: For these sessions, yarn is not included. However we have a large variety of weaving materials on hand for you to select with our guidance. The materials used will specific to the nature of the weaving session and pricing is very competitive.
