Our Introduction to Weaving Kit, featuring our Rainbow-coloured laser-cut acrylic frame looms and tools, is everything you need to get started on your weaving journey. Designed with the same spacing as The Oxford Frame Loom, the Rainbow looms are the perfect starting point for children and beginner weavers wanting to learn this craft.

OUR INTRODUCTION TO WEAVING KITS INCLUDE:

1 x Rainbow Weaving Frame Loom & Tool Set (15cm x 20cm, weaving width 11cm x 16cm, 1 x small needle, 1 x comb)

1 x Yarn Starter Pack (in coordinating colour)

This kit includes all the ingredients for weaving success: The loom, tools, yarn, weaving accessories and instructions to help you understand the basics of weaving by learning how to create 2-3 wall-hangings on your Rainbow loom.

Your choices for yarn include 9 different Yarn Starter Packs which coordinate with the loom and tools. The gorgeous combinations of natural yarns and fibres have been chosen specifically for you to experiment with while learning to weave. These different types of yarns and fibres include cotton cords, wool tweed, fine merino roving, a super chunky merino and a mercerised cotton warp yarn. All of which can be purchased individually if wanting to top up your supplies later.

With our instructions you will learn the basics of weaving, plus a lot more!

We start with helping you to understand your loom, basic terminology, how the warp and weft help to define your yarn choices and loom spacing and other fundamental weaving principles (with a complete glossary for reference).

You will learn practical skills like setting up your warp for success, finishing off your project for a professional finish, and of course all the fun, contemporary weaving techniques like Soumak, Rya Knots and classic weaving patterns like Plain Weave and Twill... and more!

Our current instructions feature images of our original frame loom design, but with a little imagination you can picture the fun colours of your Rainbow loom! =) And of course, all the content remains as applicable to this smaller loom, with the exception of having to set up your loom (phew!).

And with plans to expand our offering with kits, projects and tutorials in 2022 (think jewellery, mini wall-hangings, coasters and lavender sachets), these looms will be perfect for continuing your weaving journey.

A note when buying this kit for children:

This weaving kit has been designed for adults, but is equally suitable for children aged 6+ with the support of an adult. We regularly use these looms and teach the elements of weaving shared in our instructions with children in our Textile Arts Club, so with a bit of support, children of any age can learn to weave.
