Wall of Wool Roving

Our Specialty Blends of Wool Roving are one of our signature fibres at The Oxford Weaving Studio. These blends, only found at our studio, are one-of-a-kind blends that we have created especially to elevate your woven designs.

Working with a broad palette of colours from our Dyed and Un-Dyed ranges of Wool Roving, we create original blends that combine Merino, Blue-Faced Leicester or combinations of other specialty fibres that we know work well together.

These fibres are tried and tested in our studio, woven into our collections of soft furnishings, lighting and woven wall art. If you are looking for inspiration on how these yarns combine with our other yarns & fibres, check out these examples to see how effective these Specialty Blends are in elevating your woven designs.

Merino, Blue Faced Leicester and Blended Fibres

Chosen for their wonderful textures and colours, both natural and dyed, we like to experiment with different breeds of sheep which carry different properties. Our 100% 23 Micron Merino Wool Roving is super soft and luxurious with a gorgeous handle and strong when woven and felted. Our un-dyed Blue-Faced Leicester is a fibrous, textured wool roving that creates a rustic look when woven.

To create our blends we look for a combination of those qualities and design a blend with different properties so you can experiment with your designs.

Order the correct thickness and length as follows (contact us for longer lengths):

5g = 1/2 inch thick (0.5m) - Only available in small Yarn Starter Packs

25g = 1 inch thick (2m)

50g = 1 inch thick (4m)

100g = 2 inches thick (4m)

With these options you have the flexibility to choose the right weight/thickness for your project, avoiding unwanted breaks or overlaps in your design. No short and stubby fibres here!

Once split, the roving is then carefully wound into a bundle, avoiding twisting so that your fibres maintain their thick and bouncy texture.

* Please note * Due to the handmade nature of preparing your roving in this manner some differences may occur in weight and/or thickness.
