Introduction to Weaving: Private Workshop
Skill Level: Beginners - Intermediate (Teens)
Learn to weave using your preferred choice of loom, tools and materials to create handwoven textiles in our one-to-one (or small group), Private Introduction to Weaving workshop! These workshops offer students a rare opportunity to learn how to weave with an experienced weaver, Cassandra Sabo, who works in the field of contemporary weaving.
What can you learn?
Working with the individual's previous knowledge of weaving we will develop a session that is unique to the individual. Whether this is working with the student's own loom (transportation permitting), or on one of our frame or table looms in the studio, together we will determine which skills need improving or developing.
For complete beginners, we offer our Intro to Frame Loom Weaving or Intro to Table Loom Weaving options. Each of these workshops are based on our group workshops, but we are able to go into more depth in a private workshop as we are working one-to-one or in a small group.
How much time do I need to learn to weave?
Learning to weave is a journey but having taught dozens of students over the last few years, we know that setting up a loom and learning to weave can be an intense experience.
2-Hour Private Workshop
We currently recommend a 2-hour option for teens who are new to weaving and want a great introduction to this craft. We want to support emerging textile artists, so this is a great workshop for GCSC or A-Level students looking to add new skills or work to their portfolio.
4-Hour Private Workshop on a Frame or Table Loom (One-to-one or small groups)
This option is perfect for more mature students wanting to learn to weave on a frame loom, set up a table loom or trouble-shoot a specific technique or skill.
*If you aren't sure what the difference is between the two types of looms and the way you weave, please read our blog posts What is Tapestry Weaving? and What is Hand-weaving? These posts should help to give you context for what is possible and help you decide on what type of loom you would like learn.*
