Get creative in this new workshop to design and plan a project using The Oxford Frame Loom!
Skill Level: Beginner - Intermediate
What will I learn?
Participants in this workshop will learn how to design a project using The Oxford Frame Loom. They will learn how to map out their ideas, connect them with the technical possibilities available to them with The Oxford Frame Loom and consider which aspects of design will be relevant to their project.
Starting with their own research, mood board or samples from the Finding Inspiration for Your Next Woven Project workshop, students will identify a starting point for their project. As a group we will discuss elements of design like repeat, scale, colour and placement and consider how their research might align (or not!) with the intended outcome for their project.
With this knowledge in hand, students will refine their idea for their final project and gather materials in their desired colours and texture. They will then explore a variety of Setts, techniques and patterns to create samples, then test the viability of their ideas in the form of a small group discussion, with feedback given to help them through the design process. Students will also be taken through a technical worksheet step-by-step to record their findings.
Over the course of the day, students will build a strategy for design:
- Learn the basic elements of the design process
- Consider repeat, scale, colour & placement
- Test ideas and develop strategies to find solutions to challenges
- Connect the abstract with the practical
- Explore features of The Oxford Frame Loom to identify ideas and opportunities
- Solidify their understanding of a technical worksheet
- Learn how to sample and refine their ideas for a project outcome
