Beyond the Basics: Creative Tapestry Weaving on a Frame Loom is your opportunity to explore expressive, contemporary tapestry techniques while building confidence in your weaving style—all using The Oxford Frame Loom.
What You’ll Learn:
In this full-day session, you’ll expand on the foundations introduced in our Intro to Frame Loom Weaving workshop by exploring a new set of beginner-friendly tapestry techniques. While each technique is accessible on its own, together they build a broader skill set that will help you gain more confidence, creativity, and control in your weaving. You’ll explore how to use colour, shape, and pattern in new ways to start discovering your weaving style.
Here’s what we’ll cover:
- The difference between tapestry weaving and hand-weaving
- How yarn selection impacts structure and texture
- Shaping techniques using multiple methods
- Interlocking and slit tapestry techniques
- Colour blending, blocks, and gradation
- Creative pattern building and experimenting with style
- Finishing techniques for different project types
You’ll create a series of woven samples throughout the day—perfect for building your own visual reference library to inspire future projects.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is ideal for weavers who are ready to go beyond the basics and explore their own creative voice. If you've taken our introductory class or taught yourself the basics, this is a fun and supportive next step. You’ll leave with new skills, inspiration, and a clearer sense of your own weaving direction.
Looms & Equipment:
You’ll be working on our Medium Oxford Frame Loom for the duration of the workshop. You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase your loom at a discounted price at the end of the session.
Class Size:
Maximum of 8 participants to ensure plenty of personal support and guidance.
Location:
Held in our bright and welcoming Oxford studio, backing onto the tranquil Oxford Canal and just a short walk from the city centre, train and bus stations, and the lively Jericho neighbourhood.
