Introduction to Weaving: Private Workshop

Skill Level: Beginners - Intermediate

Learn to weave using your preferred choice of loom, tools and materials to create handwoven textiles in our one-to-one (or small group), Private Introduction to Weaving workshop! These workshops offer students a rare opportunity to learn how to weave with an experienced weaver, Cassandra Sabo, who works in the field of contemporary weaving.

What can you learn?

Working with the individual's previous knowledge of weaving we will develop a session that is unique to the individual. Whether this is working with the student's own loom (transportation permitting), or on one of our frame or table looms in the studio, together we will determine which skills need improving or developing.

For complete beginners, we offer our Intro to Frame Loom Weaving, Intro to Table & Rigid Heddle Loom Weaving or our *NEW* Creative Weaving Session options. Each of these workshops are based on our group workshops, but we are able to go into more depth in a private workshop as we are working one-to-one or in a small group.

How much time do I need to learn to weave?

We recommend that students pace themselves as this experience can be both wonderful and intense. We suggest the following timeframes:

Frame Loom (4 Hours): In this workshop you can learn to set up a warp on a frame loom, explore patterns & techniques based on your interest, complete a wall-hanging project with a professional finish and remove your work from the loom.

Table or Rigid Heddle Loom (6 Hours): In this workshop you can learn to complete a technical worksheet, all the steps to set up a warp on a table or Rigid Heddle loom, explore patterns & techniques based on your interest and weave a small sample to take home.

*NEW* Creative Weaving Session (4 Hours): In this workshop you won't need to set up a table loom (we'll do that for you!) so you can spend your time learning more about weaving, how a table loom works, how to follow and weave patterns, explore texture and weave a small sample to take home.

*If you aren't sure what the difference is between the two types of looms and the way you weave, please read our blog posts What is Tapestry Weaving? and What is Hand-weaving? These posts should help to give you context for what is possible and help you decide on what type of loom you would like learn.*
